About The Dowdy House
Come in for one thing. Leave with something you didn't know you needed. That's been the Dowdy House experience since 1987.

Jean Dowdy — Founder
A Legacy That Started
in 1987
The Dowdy House was brought to life by life-long Lexington resident Jean Dowdy in 1987. Jean retired from nursing and decided to open an antique store. She had a love for antiques and a knack for finding them. The original store was located in "old town" Lexington on Shaw Street in the childhood home of her husband Bill Al Dowdy. He was born in the house in 1922. It is lovingly referred to as the old Dowdy House — this is where the name comes from.
Jean purchased the current location at the corner of Rockdale and Third St. This location was originally a Ford dealership then parts store. She brought the same work ethic and dedication to her shop that she once did to her patients. She took pleasure in polishing tarnished silver and antique furniture and making use of all things old. The store became a sanctuary, not just for furniture and old trinkets she acquired but for the visitors who enjoyed hearing about them and collecting them for their own homes.
Jean recruited family members to help in the business. From moving, loading, picking, refinishing furniture, pricing, painting — you name it, they were involved in keeping the store going. Jean passed in October of 2024 at the age of 92. After careful consideration and requests from loyal customers, Jean's daughter-in-law Kim and great-granddaughter Meadow decided to keep her legacy going.
Kim was very involved in the original store and had a location in Round Rock, TX for a few years. Meadow has a love for thrifting, estate sales and finding extraordinary items to awaken your imagination and tickle the senses. Together, they carry on Jean's love of antiques and all things unique and beautiful.
